All donations to the Natural Heritage Trust directly benefit state parks, conservation
and historic preservation in New York State. Donations are fully tax-deductible.
A Piece of New York History
Completed in 1829, the 40-foot tall Barcelona Lighthouse was the very first natural gas lighthouse in the country. Though it no longer has the original lens, nor is used for navigational purposes, it is still lit and visible today through an agreement with the Town of Westfield. The lighthouse is a State Park and is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historical Places.
Revitalization Project
The Natural Heritage Trust has partnered with the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (OPRHP), with support from the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, to restore this iconic piece of New York history and to increase accessibility for all visitors.
